Understanding Your Auto Insurance

At Tennessee Auto Insurance Agency, we think you must understand your car insurance to make confident decisions. Asking the right questions is always an excellent place to start because it ensures you get the necessary coverage.

Car insurance can seem confusing. So, understanding how it operates is crucial. Therefore, we have compiled a list of questions you may ask while speaking with your auto insurance provider.

1. Am I eligible for any auto discounts?

You can reduce your auto insurance cost by utilizing some providers' auto discounts.

Typical reductions include:

  • Multi-Car Discount

  • Combined Discount (bundle more than one product like auto and home or renters)

  • Discount for payments deducted from your bank account or paid in installments

  • Discount for receiving your bill by email (paperless bill)

  • Online insurance purchases

  • Military Discount

  • Student Discount

  • Safe driving

You may ask your insurance provider to evaluate your policy to ensure you receive all the discounts you qualify for.

2. What does my current auto insurance policy not cover?

Check your policy's details with your auto insurance provider. Finally, based on your needs, consider what you want to add. These extra coverages are not included in typical auto insurance policies.

Gap Coverage: This insurance will pay the balance due on your loan or lease if your car is totaled or stolen. That is if your vehicle's worth is less than the amount still owed.

24-Hour Roadside Help: Enjoy peace of mind knowing help is only a phone call away. The 24-hour roadside assistance can assist if your car breaks down, locks you out of your vehicle, or if you need a jump start or a tow.

Rental Car Reimbursement: This assists in covering the cost of a rental automobile while your car is getting fixed after an accident.

3. Do I have enough insurance? What coverages does my insurance include?

Ask these questions to find out the level of your automobile insurance.

  • What is my state-mandated minimum for auto insurance?

  • Is the expense of having comprehensive and collision coverage worth the cash value of my car?

  • Will the state-mandated minimum insurance cover all of my assets if I am at fault for an accident?  -Remember that the liability coverage you receive should be sufficient to cover your assets.

  • Would my health insurance cover my medical costs if I have an accident?  -If not, you might want to increase to some insurance policies, such as Personal Injury Protection (PIP) and medical payments coverage (MedPay). No matter who was at fault, these can assist in covering your medical costs following a vehicle accident. If an uninsured driver strikes you, the uninsured motorist coverage may also cover your medical bills.

4. What are my deductible costs?

If you have collision and comprehensive coverage and suffer a covered loss, you are responsible for paying your deductible. Having this cash set aside will enable you to pay for it in an emergency.

Please be aware that while raising your deductible may result in cheaper insurance costs, decreasing it may result in higher prices. So be sure to consider your alternatives and choose the solution that best suits you.

5. Am I protected if the car accident is my fault?

You may be held financially liable for an auto accident that you caused in which one or more people suffered significant injuries. This also includes covering their medical and auto repair expenses. The good news is that liability coverage can assist in defraying these expenses.

Note that bare minimum liability limits may not be sufficient in severe accidents. You might have to come up with extra cash if an accident loss exceeds your limits.

6. When will my insurance renew?

You need to know the date of your insurance renewal because:

  • It helps you know when your bills are due.

  • The best time to determine whether to keep your coverage or acquire estimates from other carriers is before the renewal.

  • You can purchase a new one before your current insurance expires.

  • It is an excellent time to discuss your policy's coverage with your agent, confirm any discounts, and make any necessary changes.

7. Should I get a telematics device?

Telematics equipment monitors your car's speed, mileage, total driving time, braking, acceleration, and other factors. These gadgets can be an app on your phone or a plug-in device for your car.

These gadgets can help safe drivers since they can get discounts for safe driving. These tools can also assist drivers in becoming more conscious of their driving and making positive changes.

8. Does my insurance cover me if my car is stolen?

Your insurance should assist in paying for the costs associated with your stolen vehicle if you have comprehensive coverage.

Comprehensive can help in two different ways:

  • Car was not found: Comprehensive can cover the cost of the stolen car's market value.

  • Car found: The vehicle's repairs will be partly assisted by Comprehensive.

Remember that you will be responsible for the comprehensive deductible from your coverage in both situations.

9. Will my insurance company cover the cost of a new car if my car is totaled?

You have coverage for a covered loss if you have comprehensive and collision insurance. A car is generally regarded as totaled if:

  • There is no way to fix it to make driving safe again.

  • The cost of the repairs exceeded the value of the vehicle.

Please be aware that the value of your car is determined using its pre-accident value minus your deductible. Therefore, comprehensive and collision insurance will only cover up to this sum.

At Tennessee Auto Insurance Agency, we provide insurance to aid you if your new car is totaled.
